Codeworks, the Digital Centre of Excellence, is identifying and backing new technologies and digital media applications to reinforce existing, and establish new, digital industries in the North East of England - focusing initially on Accessibility, Games Development, Grid Computing and Web-based services.

Codeworks Connect forges strong links amongst the region's digital business support into SME's, while Codeworks NITRO facilitates access to research, state-of-the-art facilities, and expert advice in Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland and Teesside Universities.

Over the next decade, CODEWORKS will establish the North East of England and itself as a clear international leader in specific areas of digital technology and media. Its mission: to be an independent self-sustaining organisation that is a recognised role model in economic regeneration. Leading public-private coalition to build long term and defensible economic competitive advantages for the North East of England.

In order to achieve its overall vision and mission CODEWORKS will:

• Develop thought leadership in understanding future opportunities in the digital technology and media marketplace and how the North East will successfully compete within this market
• Create and exploit IP
• Assist in the access to finance to our partner companies and organisations
• Support regional companies in the digital industries.
