NaREC

The New and Renewable Energy Centre Ltd's (NaREC) mission is to create and enable world-class new and renewable energy provision building upon the North East's industrial and academic expertise.

The New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) is capitalising on the North East of England's world-class science and industrial base to deliver an internationally recognised facility for fast-tracking new and renewable energy research and development through to commercialisation. NaREC activities directly address the key economic and performance drivers of wind, wave, current, solar, biomass and clean fuel energies in order to accelerate and exploit future markets.  NaREC outputs will greatly assist the UK to meet its obligations under the Kyoto protocol and enable the UK to exert international leadership and influence on climate change and energy policy.

The North East of England provides ready access to internationally recognised skill sets, infrastructure and specialist facilities across the marine, offshore oil and gas, power generation and renewable energy sectors.  Therefore, as a region it is best suited to the development of this national Centre solving wide ranging, national issues in new and renewable energy technologies.

NaREC is based upon a strong partnership with the North East region's universities and industry, and will develop linkages with key energy technology centres elsewhere in the UK and internationally.  NaREC provides effective external interfaces to deliver a value-for-money service to industry. This is creating a powerful catalyst for the stimulation and growth of high technology companies. It will also ensure widespread and long-term industry buy-in.
