Green light for business growth

A County Durham-based electronics recycling specialist is helping more businesses go green by going for growth with the launch of a new sister company, the opening of a new office in Milton Keynes and a fivefold increase in turnover.

Established in 2004, National Computer Recycling specialises in the collection, disposal and treatment of redundant electrical and electronic goods and as  demand for its services has rapidly grown the management team has now launched a new sister company.

Clear Recycling Solutions, launched with support from Business Link, focuses on the environmentally friendly disposal of fluorescent light bulbs and means together, the two companies can help businesses recycle all types of electrical waste.

The original business idea was born when the EU Waste and Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) 2003 Directive was introduced,  stipulating that all UK businesses are responsible for ensuring that redundant electrical equipment is re-used or recycled. Clear Recycling was established following client demand for fluorescent light bulb recycling.

With a national and regional client base of both public and private sector organisations and now employing 36 people in its Chester-le-Street and new Milton Keynes depots, National Computer Recycling’s turnover has increased by 500 percent.

Demand for its services has grown so quickly that is has had to expand in to the next door unit at its head office in Stella Gill Industrial Estate and the Milton Keynes depot now provides opportunities for future growth on a national scale.

Darren Fraser from National Computer Recycling said: “Although we have been operating nationally since we launched, the opening of a strategically positioned operation in Milton Keynes has provided easier access to existing national clients and enabled us to strengthen our market position and attract new clients throughout the whole of the UK.

“We have worked with Business Link since the very start. From developing a website for National Computer Recycling to recruitment advice and funding support, they have helped us every step of the way.

“Business Link’s team also helped us to establish the new company for which we have gained support to develop a website, branding and corporate literature for the company’s launch.

“The Clear Recycling website has created a new distribution channel for our services and has helped to reach new markets – we now receive the majority of new client enquiries via the website.”

Sarah Travis from Business Link said: “National Computer Recycling has rapidly grown and shows no sign of stopping with future plans for growth in its field.

“The company has worked extremely hard over the last 12 months and I’m pleased to see the support we’ve provided has meant that the company has been able to develop further.”

Business Link’s substantial team of expert brokers operate across the region in local access points and on a mobile basis.
