The resource efficiency programme Midas, which was funded by One North East and managed by energy consultancy TNEI Services, has rounded off three years of success with a series of national and international awards and nominations.
The programme has now concluded after helping over 700 North East companies manage their energy, waste and water issues and has gained national and international recognition for the major environmental contribution it has made.
With £15 million worth of energy savings identified and a 40,000 tonne reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, the project has received recognition from several major environmental awards with a win in one and nominations in three more – two national and one, European.
Midas won a Green Apple award in the awards of the same name and as a winner is granted a Green Hero award with automatic entry to the European finals, which will be held in Brussels.
Midas also received nominations in two separate Environmental Excellence awards - one organised by edie, the other by the Energy Institute. Midas was runner up in both these awards after making it through to the final 3.
Commenting on the award nominations, Dan Smith, Principal Consultant at TNEI explained; “The nominations demonstrate how successful the Midas programme has been and are the culmination of a lot of hard work on behalf of TNEI’s energy management team. One North East was ahead of the game in offering businesses across the North East access to expert and practical consultancy help to deliver resource efficiencies - from cutting energy bills to managing their waste and water. The results speak for themselves.”
Ray Waters, One North East’s Environment and Resource Efficiency Specialist, said: “The Midas programme has made a real difference for many businesses – enabling them to make serious savings at a time of rising energy costs, and to reduce their carbon footprint considerably. We’re delighted that this success is being recognised and look forward to seeing more businesses benefit from this type of support through the Energy Resource Efficiency programme, which recently received an additional £1m of One North East funding.”
