Dr. Keith Melton elected new president of EUREC

Brussels, 8 January 2009.  The Members of EUREC Agency, the association representing European Renewable Energy Research Centres, have appointed Dr. Keith Melton, Director of Distributed Energy at NaREC, as the new president with a three years mandate at their last College of Members in Oldenburg (Germany).

Looking to the future, Dr. Melton’s key priority will be to ensure that contextual factors such as the financial crisis do not divert Europe’s commitments on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and generating 20% of energy from renewable resources by 2020. Measures undertaken in order to stop economic recession cannot stop efforts in reducing global warming.

“We have to continue to invest in R&D and new technologies for a long term sustainable future”, says EUREC President Melton. “Investing in renewable technologies should continue as a high priority, and EUREC can play a significant role in ensuring that it does so”.

EUREC Agency’s  College of Members also appointed Carsten Agert - Director of the EWE Research Center Next Energy as well as professor at the University of Oldenburg (DE) - as new vice-president with a three years mandate. All EUREC Members warmly thanked former President Prof. Didier Mayer and vice-president Prof. Nicola Pearsall for the excellent work done in the past six years.
